27-28 ( https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=deuteronomy+27&version=CUVS )
Daily Verses:
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God.
Daily Questions:
1.How do you hide His Word in your heart? (Scripture memorization)
2. Who become the curse for us? (Galatians 3:13)
Daily Devotion:
In chapter 27, God instructed the Israelites to create stone monuments as reminders of His mercy, grace, and justice. The altar he commanded them to build would take hard work but would be a visual reminder for them as well as for future generations. After reciting a list of laws, they were to write them all on the alter. They heard the word of God. They recited the word of God. Then they made a representation of the word of God. This is a timeless memory technique. The Lord was training His people to hide His Word in their hearts. He is a great teacher! God knows that if we are faithful to Him, we will discover greater and greater joy that can only come from being close to Him. That’s why scripture memorization is so important. Once we begin to memorize His word and surround ourselves with reminders of God, we will realize the comfort, joy, and guidance that come from hiding His promises in our heart and mind.
In chapter 28, God gave a list of blessings followed by a exhaustive list of terrible curses to help Israel take sin seriously. God wanted them to understand the dire consequences of disobeying His commands. Many of the curses are exact, word-for-word opposite of the blessings. Israel had a clear choice: obey and live in God’s blessing or disobey and receive God’s chastisement.
This is our story as well. We have broken God’s law and are fully deserved to receive all these curses.God is not a liar and justice will be done against all who commit evil. However, the Gospel shines brightly through here. All of these curses we deserved, Jesus bore in his flesh on the cross. In fact, he became the curse for us to redeem us from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13). Praise God for choosing us to be His children and inherit His blessings!
