Proverbs 6:16-19 16 There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, 19 a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
What areas in my life need to die? How are we resurrected with Christ?
When I read Proverbs 6-7, it is easy to read it as a list of “do’s and do not’s”. Do not put up security for someone else, do not be lazy, do not commit adultery. Sometimes, I find I need to slow down and focus on a certain section or certain verses to really understand and absorb what the Holy Spirit wants to show me. When reading through chapter 6, verses 12-19 caught my eye. I find it especially interesting that these verses show us how man can sin with his entire body. Everything from the eyes, the feet, the heart, the tongue, and the hands can be used to sin. When I read 6:16-19, the first thing I think is that I have not shed innocent blood. I pick the one thing on the list that I don’t think I am guilty of. But there are so many things on the list that I am guilty of.
But then I remember that Jesus lived, died, and resurrected to purify us of our sin. Because of his resurrection, we can also have hope that our corrupted hearts and bodies can also be used to praise and serve God. Thank the Lord that instead of falling into sin, I can now stand firm in Christ!
Dear Heavenly Father, Please open my eyes to see areas of my life that need sanctification. I thank you that your death and resurrection gives me hope for a life that can be lived fully for you. Pray in the name of Jesus,Amen!
