Daily Verse:

Psalm 107:43“Let the one who is wise heed these things and ponder the loving deeds of the Lord.”

Daily Devotion:

Psalm is a great reminder of who this God is that we worship. Not only is this a reminder, but this Psalm also instructs us on how we should respond to this God’s love.

In 107:1 we see the thesis statement: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. In verse 107:6 we see that people have cried out to God, and he delivers them from their troubles. 107:9 This God satisfies longing souls and fills the soul with good things. 107:10-11 tells us that those who do not obey the words of God sit in darkness in the shadow of death as prisoners. 107:35-36 we see that this God turns deserts into pools of water. Remember that as Christians, we do not worship an idea, a book, or even a set of morality, we worship God. What the point of this Psalm, what are we to do with all these wonderful descriptions of our God? Well, the author tells us what to do very clearly in 107:43, “Let the one who is wise heed these things and ponder the loving deeds of the Lord. “

If we truly ponder these things of God and attend to them until they produce action within us, we will truly become wise as described above. Psalm 108 depicts our God-changed hearts. 108:1 – My heart, O God, is steadfast; I will sing and make music with all my soul. Is your heart for your personal devotions steadfast? Do you read your Bible, pray, and sing soulful praises to God as consistently as you brush your teeth, shower, charge your phone, and eat?

I know for me, my heart compared to Psalm 108 is a desert; it is a dry and parched land. If you feel this way too, take heart, brothers and sisters, for our God turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs, (107:35-36) and He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. So let us ponder the loving deeds of the Lord (107:43).

Prayer:

Dear God,We give all of our thanks to you for you are good. Truly Your love endures forever. When we cry to you in our days of trouble, you hear us God; and you save us from our distress. God, we know only you can satisfy our longing souls. Our hearts and souls are dry deserts, but You turn them into pools of water. God, for the sake of Your glory all over the earth, please give us the life-changing desire to seek your face. Make our hearts sing Your praise among the nations. In Jesus name, Amen!
